Packaging

This week I have been working on creating packaging for my product.

While exploring different packaging opinions, I came up with several ideas:

1. a black circular base that the tube could sit inside. The base would be plastic with "philosophy" in white letters. The base could be used after purchase to hold the tube to keep it upright. I would include a clear plastic cylinder to cover the tube and fit into the base. This would be disposed of after purchase.

2. a white box that has a wide horizontal base and opens from the top. The top flap would have a clear window that would allow the product to be seen.

After the model making tutorial on Thursday, I decided to combine my ideas. I created a square base that has a cylinder nestled in the middle to hold the tube in place. I then created 2 different top options. I am using chipboard and clear plastic. I painted my first models with white acrylic paint, but I will use white spray paint for the final model. I am also using Illustrator to create the details for the packaging. I am looking forward to the pin-up on Tuesday for feedback.

Branding Assignment - Final Draft

I was happy with the result of my branding project. Despite a few hiccups at FedEx, the image was printed on glossy card stock.

Blog Review

I visited several blogs suggested by our Professors to see what other people were doing. I really like the format of an open [sketch]book: http://www.anopensketchbook.com/ because it is a very simple format with many pictures to express the bloggers ideas. I also like the blog by Andrea Joseph: http://www.andreajoseph24.blogspot.com/ because her asthetic is similar to mine. I will be creating my own style keeping both these blogs in mind.

Idea (second draft) - Branding Assignment

11" x 17" color poster

step 1: find a bathroom image, add to photoshop
The image that I found was a free image. It was perfect because of the modern fixtures and color palette. The pale blue is a great accent to the product, so I have decided not to do black and white but color.
step 2: find an image of Natalie Portman, add to photoshop
I searched for a free image and found a black and white photo gives a very natural look.
step 3: take a photo of me, add to photoshop
It was tricky to get a picture at the right angle. I decided not to have me holding the product in the picture but instead, I had my hand raised to my mouth.
step 4: find an image of product, add to photoshop
I found the image off the Philosophy's company website.

Idea (first draft) - Branding Assignment

11" x 17" landscape poster:
Image of me looking in the bathroom mirror, applying the "hope in a tube". I would be holding the tube in my hand. The reflection in the mirror would not be mine but instead Kiera Knightly's image. On the side would be the tag line in large black letters, "philosophy: believe and it shall be yours". The image would be in black and white.

Branding assignment - Desk Crit

This week has been a challenge to brand my eye and lip cream. I came into class on Tuesday with an idea to create a "display" with a 11'' x 17'' display board attached to an acrylic box. The board would have: "philosophy: believe and it shall be yours" (top) and a benefit/talking point card holder (bottom). The acrylic box would be frosted with "hope in a tube" printed on the front. I was going to create a photoshop image of the eye and lip cream to make it appear that the box was full of samples. I class, I was discussing my idea with another classmate and brainstorming. I came up with a second idea for the branding assignment. During the desk "crit" it was evident that the second idea addressed the assignment better.
